Hitchcock could not have better scripted the birds of Birch Point this summer. Herons glide inches above the water, Sandhill Cranes dance in the grasses, Canada geese teach their fledgling gaggle to fly, and the loons are thick this year (7 at highest count). Pileateds, Kingfishers, Bald Eagles, Hummingbirds, and a myriad of woodland birds add to a soundtrack for Summer up here. And the sounds are ever enchanting. A friend described a recent unidentified evening bird noise as a "long and low, mournful call". Hitchcock indeed.
